Anthony Alston has made some incredible strides since he first started running with Students Run Philly Style in the spring. The 17 year-old joined a Students Run team composed of his classmates from Germantown High School and lead by Germantown High science teacher, Hannah Gelman, in March of 2008. When he first started with the team even his aunt and guardian, Angela Chrisholm did not foresee how far Anthony would go. “I thought it was just a phase,” Chrisholm said. According to Gelman, neither Anthony nor his entire running team could complete a mile run back in March.
Fast Forward to November 23, 2008 . . . Anthony Alston is a marathon finisher! After putting on hundreds of miles and taking off more than 30 pounds, Anthony, alongside teammates and mentors, crossed the finish line of the 15th Philadelphia Marathon.
